The Mt. Juliet community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Matthew Neil Estes, whose passing at the age of 17 has left family, friends, and loved ones with an immeasurable sense of sorrow. Though his time on earth was far too brief, Matthew lived with a spirit, energy, and generosity that made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born on August 29, 2008, in Hermitage, Tennessee, Matthew was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He possessed a rare ability to make people feel welcome and valued. Those who knew him often remarked that he never met a stranger. His warm smile, easygoing nature, and willingness to help others created friendships wherever he went and earned him the admiration of countless people throughout his life.
Matthew had a deep appreciation for hard work and took pride in operating heavy equipment as an excavator. He enjoyed being productive and was happiest when he was busy helping others. Known jokingly among friends for running an “unlicensed towing service,” Matthew never hesitated to use his truck to assist someone in need. Whether it was helping a stranded friend, lending a hand with a project, or simply showing up when someone needed support, he embodied selflessness and generosity.
The outdoors was where Matthew truly felt at home. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time surrounded by nature. These moments brought him peace, excitement, and countless memories that his family and friends will forever treasure. He also shared a special bond with his beloved horse, Uno, and his faithful dog, Coco, who were important parts of his life and daily adventures.
